If you have an SGI package policy, the process is simple:

We verify your coverage with SGI in minutes. If you have a qualifying package policy, we confirm your chip repair is covered at no cost.
Step 3
We repair the chip while you wait — about 15 minutes. We bill SGI directly. You pay nothing and drive away.
You get up to 3 free stone chip repairs per year under your package policy. Each repair is independent — you don’t need to wait for multiple chips to use them.
What If I Don’t Have a Package Policy?
If you have standard SGI plate insurance only (no package policy), chip repairs are not covered under your $700 deductible — but they’re still very affordable out of pocket:
- Single chip repair: typically $25–$50
- Multiple chips: we offer pricing per chip — ask us
- No appointment needed: walk-ins welcome
- Completed in 15 minutes
This is one of those cases where paying out of pocket makes more sense than filing a claim. We’ll never recommend a claim when it doesn’t save you money.
If you’re getting chips frequently (common for highway commuters in Saskatchewan), it might be worth asking your broker about adding or upgrading to a package policy with road hazard glass coverage.
Why You Shouldn’t Wait on Chip Repair?
A stone chip might look small, but in Saskatchewan’s climate it can become an expensive problem fast. Temperature swings — freezing overnight, warming during the day — cause the glass to expand and contract, which turns a small chip into a spreading crack.
Once a chip becomes a crack longer than about 15 centimeters, it can no longer be repaired and requires a full windshield replacement. That turns a free 15-minute repair into a $50–$700+ replacement (depending on your deductible).
Getting chips repaired quickly is especially important in winter, when road salt, gravel, and temperature extremes accelerate damage.
Can a Chip Be Repaired, or Does It Need Replacement?
Not every chip qualifies for repair. A chip can typically be repaired if:
- It’s smaller than a quarter (25-cent coin)
- It hasn’t started to crack or spider
- It’s not in the driver’s direct line of sight (repairs can leave slight visual distortion)
- It’s not near the edge of the windshield (edge damage weakens structural integrity)
- The damage hasn’t penetrated both layers of the windshield glass
